OUR ROLE

The GEN Initiative provides resources to assist grassroot organisations with which it forms partnerships, to fulfil their development goals. With GENs help, our partners can deliver project initiatives in collaboration with those village groups which are most-in-need. GENs assistance includes:

• Technical and organisational guidance related to the implementation of village activities;
• Fund-raising in the UK and India through submissions to government bodies, trusts and other funding bodies, and from donations;
• Project monitoring, evaluation and reporting assistance.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES, 2009-10

During 2009, GEN sponsored the creation of an Indian-based NGO, END POVERTY, which works in the Alwar District of Rajasthan, 45 miles from Gurgaon & 75 miles from New Delhi, close to the Rajasthan-Haryana border.

*   a Situational Analysis has been undertaken within the target area to assess the needs of the most disadvantaged villagers

*   Village Development Groups have been identified, particularly for young people, so that they benefit from govt-sponsored employment initiatives

*   Children have been identified for inclusion in basic literacy & numeracy skills programmes

*   Villagers needing eye treatments & operations, particularly the elderly, have been identified for eye care programmes

*   Trees have been planted to provide shade for villagers and livestock and to help retain water near village ponds

*   GENs Chair, Sue Burke, visited the project area to meet EP Trustees & villagers
